She returned to her ocean home on September 11, 2010.

Brandy
We received another update from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, this
time about another California sea lion that Paws of the Planet is
helping to sponsor -- Brandy. Brandy was rescued from Surf Beach
on June 23, 2010, suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.
After some time in ICU and a diet of nutrient-rich fish smoothies,
Brandy was on the road to recovery. Once she began eating fish on
a consistent basis and had put on some weight, she was moved into a pool
where she could learn to compete for fish with other sea lions her size.
We're told that Brandy is doing well. Hopefully she will soon be
ready to be returned back to her ocean home. Below are pictures of
Brandy, taken a few days after her rescue and a month later. If
you're in the Laguna Beach area, be sure to visit the
Pacific Marine
Mammal Center and see Brandy and all the other rescued sea lions and
seals.

Naboo Update:
Naboo and three fellow rescued sea lions were returned to the wild on
Sunday, June 6. The Pacific Marine Mammal Center is still caring
for an unusual number of rescued sea lions, elephant seals, and harbor
seals, thanks to a shortage of food brought about by this year's El Niņo
condition.

We received an e-mail and photos from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center,
and thought we would share some of that with you. Thanks to your
donations, Paws of the Planet provided funding for the care and feeding
of rescued sea lions through the Pacific Marine Mammal Center's "Meals
for Seals" program.
Our sponsorship is helping to provide fish, vitamins, and medical care
for a California sea lion pup nicknamed Naboo. Naboo was
rescued on February 11, 2010 from Capistrano Beach after she had somehow
gotten herself entangled in a large rubber band and had developed a
swelling in her jaw. The rubber band was removed and she was
prescribed antibiotics to ward off any possible infection.
After several days of rest in a heated nursery unit, nutrient and
calorie rich fish smoothies, and extra fluids to battle dehydration,
Naboo was growing stronger. She was soon eating whole fish and the
swelling in her jaw was completely gone. Once eating fish on a
regular basis and putting on a few pounds, Naboo was ready to move to a
small pool. Eating well and eagerly on her own, it was time to
start competing with her other sea lions during feeding. Naboo did
well, and has graduated to a larger back area pool, where she and her
pool-mates have plenty of room to swim, play and dive for fish.
When she has completed the rehabilitation, is healthy and strong, she'll
be ready to be returned back to the wild.
Below are some pictures of Naboo taken the day she was rescued, six days
later, and about 6-1/2 weeks after that.

NBTV's "Pick A Pet" Thanksgiving show was filmed at Paws of the Planet's

Sheltering Fur, Feathers, and Flippers
Saturday, November 7, 2009
It was a beautiful day at Peninsula Park in Newport Beach for our second
annual "Sheltering Fur, Feathers, and Flippers", an event featuring
rescue and environmental groups and benefiting the Newport Beach Animal
Shelter, Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center, Pacific Marine Mammal
Center, and Wonders of Wildlife.

Kelly from Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center shows visitors a rescued
opossum. Tide Pool Rangers show visitors how trash can travel
miles to the ocean and end up in tide pools.

Visitors climb aboard the Back Bay Science Center's Sharkmobile for a
hands-on encounter with sharks, rays, starfish, urchins, and other
marine animals.

Wonders of Wildlife brought Carnita the Pig and other animals, as well
as lots of educational material.

NBTV's Pick-A-Pet show recorded at the event, with host Jamye Rogers and
Councilman Steve Rosansky interviewing many participants.

The Lily Sanctuary again brought a number of rescued birds.

The Newport Beach Animal Shelter and a half dozen other groups brought
dozens of dogs and cats available for adoption.

Santa Ana Zoo's Sunset at the Zoo
June 14, 28, and July 19, 2009
Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Santa Ana Zoo's three
Sunset at the Zoo events. With the funds we raised selling unique Fair Trade crafts and gifts created by indigenous artisans
from around the planet, Paws of the Planet will sponsor a school bus so
that Orange County children can
make a field trip to the zoo and learn all about the amazing animals who
live there.

The crowd enjoyed some great music.

One of the Zoo's volunteers brought this skink by for a visit....

.... as well as this hedgehog.

We are proudly featuring unique Fair Trade crafts and gifts created by
indigenous artisans
from around the planet. These arts and crafts help provide a dignified,
sustainable living
for these artists from developing countries.

Jenny, Robyn, Nancy, and Tommy from Chi Sigma Phi at Cal State Fullerton
helped us
with the setup. Thanks for the support!

"Nana" was rescued from a home in San Diego where she was not cared for properly.
She was in very poor health and was surviving at an extremely low weight. Her coat and eyes were lifeless and dull.
It was evident at the time she was removed from her previous environment that "Nana" was close to giving
up.
Paws of the Planet sponsored this lovely horse for three months as she made
a remarkable recovery! We are proud and happy to report the Nana has since been adopted into a caring
family where she continues to get the love and attention she deserves! Please help to sponsor more success
stories just like this one.
There are many animals just like Nana
in need of help! Your donations and memberships will make a difference in an animal's
life.
